Description
This project involves the development of an advanced AR- and AI-powered digital platform focused on solving real-world challenges in online fashion and cosmetics shopping. The core objective is to enable accurate body measurement, intelligent clothing size recommendations, and cosmetic shade matching using standard smartphones, without requiring any specialised hardware. The platform is designed to reduce sizing guesswork, improve customer confidence, and significantly lower return rates for online purchases.
The system will consist of a cross-platform mobile application (iOS and Android), a browser extension for desktop shopping experiences, and a secure backend infrastructure supported by machine learning and computer vision technologies. Users will be able to perform guided body scans using their mobile devices, where multiple frames are captured to extract body measurements with acceptable accuracy for commercial use. The solution will include a basic clothing compensation approach to adjust for loose or layered clothing, allowing more realistic size recommendations across different brands and clothing categories.
In addition to apparel sizing, the platform will offer skin tone and undertone detection to provide cosmetic shade suggestions. This feature will rely on image analysis techniques that normalise lighting conditions and analyse selected skin regions to map users to appropriate shade ranges from a predefined cosmetics database. The platform will also support basic fitness tracking, allowing users to compare body measurements over time and view simple progress insights, without extending into advanced wellness or posture analysis at this stage.
A lightweight try-preview feature will be included to give users a visual sense of garment fit using 2D overlays and proportional representation, rather than complex 3D avatars. This ensures the system remains performant, scalable, and cost-effective while still delivering tangible user value. The browser extension component will integrate with e-commerce product pages, detect relevant product information such as brand and category, and display size and shade recommendations directly within the shopping experience.
From a commercial perspective, the platform will operate on a subscription-based model. Multiple membership tiers will be supported, with both monthly and yearly payment options. The system will allow for dynamic pricing, promotional discounts, and coupon codes, all configurable through an admin dashboard. Payment gateway integrations will support recurring billing and in-app subscriptions, ensuring compliance with platform policies and security standards. In-app advertising will also be supported, primarily for free-tier users, with ad visibility rules configurable based on subscription level.
The backend will play a central role in managing user data, recommendations, subscriptions, payments, coupons, analytics, and administrative controls. An admin panel will allow authorised users to manage pricing plans, generate and revise discount coupons, control ad settings, upload brand size charts, manage cosmetic shade data, and view usage and revenue analytics. Data protection and privacy will be treated as first-class requirements, with GDPR-aware storage practices, user consent handling, and data deletion mechanisms included by design.
This project is intended to be commercially viable, technically achievable, and scalable, while deliberately avoiding research-heavy or enterprise-only features in its current phase. It is suitable for experienced mobile developers, backend engineers, machine learning practitioners, computer vision specialists, and full-stack engineers who are interested in building a real-world AI-powered consumer product.
